Rather than posting loads of unconnected stuff I thought a weekly Club News post might work better…… We’ll try it and see how it works. let me know what you think?
This weeks round-up is a bit late but it’s been a busy week.
Last weekend was the 2nd Davagh Enduro sponsored by Chainreaction cycles and a few club members made the trip up North to The Sperrins.
Neil finished 3rd in Sport with John Keaveney 32nd in the same category. Derek Hynes came home 77th with Niall Dooley in 169th.
Moycullen trails could do with some tidying up, if anyone is heading that way.
Bring machetes and cut back the briars and ferns from the trail edge. Not much work needed but it’ll make a huge difference to the rideability of our Club trail.
Anyone riding this weekend, stick a post up on Facebook and while you’re there LIKE the ‘Friends of Derroura’ page. We’re hoping to have some good news to share very soon.
Neil has an article on the Singlespeed Euro Champs in Outsider magazine this month. I can’t find the article online but I’ll see if a hard copy can be got and maybe post a scan.
I think that’s everything for now. If I’ve forgotten stuff, send me a mail.
The mighty Michelle Muldoon has finished 29th overall in EWS Round 3 in Valloire.
Full report on Michelles blog here….. http://michellemuldoonmtb.weebly.com/blog/enduro-world-series-round-3-race-report
The course looks amazing. Rocky and fast…
A nice way to round off our week of Bikeweek.ie events with a Try Mountainbiking event on a sunny morming in Derroura on the longest day of the year.
A great turnout saw about 30 riders out on the trail with a good few newbies getting their first taste of our obsession…..I mean…sport and a full carpark in Derroura for the first time in a long time.
A little trail maintenance was required on the small loop to cut back some of the briars which led to some very surprised tourist walkers as they arrived to find a man passing machetes out of the back of a big red van to a group of waiting lads wearing helmets.
The TripAdvisor reviews should be interesting.
Again, thanks to everyone who helped out during Bikeweek 2014. Great work by all the club members to promote MTB and cycling in general.
BikeParkIreland is open late Thursdays for the summer and it seems a shame not to take advantage.
The first ConnemaraMTB club trip to BPI will take place next Thursday 26th June from 6pm to 8:30pm. Be there before 5:30pm to allow plenty of time for sign on.
It’s €17 for the session and up need to book online in advance at the link below.
There’s a good mix of trails suitable for riders of all abilities so don’t be shy.
Another lovely summer evening brought another great Bikeweek event.
Moycullen Woods was full of bikers enjoying the warm weather on a mixture of rental bikes, loaners, full carbon Fat Bikes and yes, that small child on the balance bike again. Little Noah is in danger of becoming the club mascot at this rate.
The skatepark and pumptrack were very popular with lads who are old enough to know better giving it a go. Some were finding themselves back on a BMX for the first time in 30 years and some for the first time ever.
BMX, scooters, skateboards, balance bikes…anything that could roll was trying out the great facilities in Unit6 Skatepark.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped out. Eric & Liz from MBW, Padraig and Chloe for running the BBQ, Connemara MTB members for providing trail guiding and instruction to anyone who needed it, Anthony for running the skatepark (along with Scott and Jack for providing instruction) and Garry for the vision and hard work.
One Bikeweek event left in Derroura on Saturday morning 21st June @ 10am for anyone who wants to see what this mountain-biking thing is about. Bikes will be available for hire and there will be plenty of experienced riders around to assist. We’d love to see you there.
